Editorial Internship
Job Description
Light Knowledge Resources is seeking interns interested in exploring the field of science editing. Interns will edit news articles and other online content for Light's health-related websites. These internships are unpaid positions offering excellent experience for applicants interested in health- or science-related editorial careers.
Since Light is a small company, our interns are fully involved in the process. Editorial interns will review and revise news articles, disease descriptions, treatment explanations, and other patient-oriented content developed by Light's writing team. This work will be critical for ensuring that all content is accessible, logically organized, and focused on issues important to Light's readers. As a result, the work often will involve non-trivial rewrites or coordinating extensive rewrites with content authors.
Hours of work are flexible, and interns can work from home or school. Interns will work in 7-10 member teams responsible for researching, writing, and editing content for their site. Most articles for the websites will be 200-450 words in length, and editorial interns will be expected to work 7-10 hours per week for more than a single semester or 20 hours per week if they wish to work for only the summer.
Job Qualifications
Applicants for these internships should have excellent news editing and general editorial skills, be able to work independently, and possess a history of strong academic performance (3.4 GPA minimum). Substantial news editing or journalism experience is required, i.e. preference will be given to upperclassmen and graduate students. Experience editing science- or health-related news is a strong plus, but is not required. Applicants must have access to a computer with Internet access.
How to Apply
